The Hoard Historical Museum has announced that the monthly early-learners program, Morning at the Museum, will begin again on Friday, October 3.
“During the school year, the Museum hosts Morning @ the Museum, an early learners program for kids age 1-5, from 9-10:30 am on the first Friday of the month,” said Dana Bertelsen, assistant director of the Hoard Historical Museum. “This program features a theme that changes monthly. For October, our theme is “Exploring Autumn!” Volunteers and staff will be at the museum with activities for our early learners and there will be an optional storytime.
Morning at the Museum began in 2016 when a museum volunteer shared her idea to start a once-a-month Friday preschool program. Students do not need to be enrolled in preschool to attend. The program is geared toward preschoolers but toddlers and younger siblings are welcome to attend as well. Bertelsen explained, “The Hoard Museum is a community museum. We want all members of our community, regardless of their age, to think of the museum as theirs. Our hope is that this monthly program will allow our youngest patrons to feel that they belong.”
The program kicks off on Friday, October 3, with our “Exploring Autumn” theme. This month they will get an autumn-themed scavenger hunt take home activity. Future Morning at the Museum dates include “Celebrate Thanksgiving” (November 7), where we will decorate custom placemats for Thanksgiving and “All About Gingerbread” (December 5), where we will make reusable gingerbread houses and play in a child’s size gingerbread house. There is no cost to attend or participate.
Morning at the Museum begins at 9:00 a.m. on the first Friday of the month and families, daycares, or private preschools are welcome to come at any point of the program. While here, children and families can enjoy the museum at their own pace.
The Hoard Historical Museum is located at 401 Whitewater Avenue in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. The museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays.
