The Hoard Rain Garden was established in 2011. It is approximately 900 square feet in size, and receives runoff from 3,200 square feet of roof through 4 downspouts, as well as runoff from our extensive lawn. This garden is planted exclusively with perennial Wisconsin Native Plants, including a River Birch, and has about 20 varieties of plants that bloom at different times throughout the growing season.
Rain Gardens are generally intended to absorb storm water in place, to keep that water out of the storm drain system, which eventually dumps runoff into nearby waterways, and this garden does that job admirably!
