Lorine Niedecker Poetry Talk
Thursday, August 29, 6 p.m.

Caryl Pagel, Director of the Cleveland State University Poetry Center, will discuss the life and work of 20th century Wisconsin poet Lorine Niedecker. This free talk will serve as an introduction to Niedecker’s biography and literary significance as well as her relationship with humor, reading, place-based writing, and Midwestern environmental histories.

Historic Fort Atkinson Walking Tours
Saturday, August 31, 8:30 and 10 a.m.

See where the history of Fort Atkinson happened!  Join the Hoard Historical Museum staff on a walking tour of downtown Fort Atkinson. Tours will meet at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. at the Fort Atkinson Farmer’s Market on Milwaukee Avenue, across the street from the Post Office. Tours begin and end at the information table and no reservations are required. Walking tours will be on level surface and sidewalks and last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

1841 Foster House Open
Saturday, September 7, 2024, 10 a.m. – noon

The Dwight and Almira Foster House will be open for FREE tours from 10 am to 12 p.m.. Tours are offered the first Saturday of the month, June – October. The Foster House was built in the 1840s and tells the story of the Foster family, the house, and the growth of Fort Atkinson. While at the Foster House, you will be able to tour the fully furnished first and second floors. A knowledgeable volunteer will be able to answer questions about the family, house, and early years of Fort Atkinson.The Foster House is located on the grounds of the Hoard Historical Museum facing Foster Street.


1901 Historic Water Tower Open
Saturday, September 7, 2024, 10 a.m. – noon

Visit the Historic 1901 Water Tower! Visitors may climb to the top of the 112-ft tower and view the surrounding area. There are restrictions to climbing the tower. Visitors must be at least 48 inches tall and 8 years old to visit the tower.


Fort Fiber Fanatics
Wednesday, September 11, 2024, 6:30 – 8 p.m.

Knitters and crocheters, this club is for you! The club is open to anyone who enjoys creating items using thread, yarn or fabric using their hands. Come to the Hoard Historical Museum bring your project(s), and find others who enjoy creating fiber items too. Individuals of all ages and abilities are welcome to join; anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All fiber and textile-based projects are welcome, however, please be aware that there is no space for sewing machines.


Historic Bike Tour of Fort Atkinson
Saturday, September 28, 9:30 a.m.

Join the Hoard Historical Museum for a free biking tour of Fort Atkinson! The 1 1/2-2 hour tour will focus on the history and stories of people, places, and businesses. Tour will begin and end at the Fort Atkinson Farmers Market. Free to join!


Morning @ the Museum – Early Learners Program – A visit from the Fort Atkinson Fire Department

Morning @ the Museum is held monthly and gives children age 2-5 an opportunity to explore the museum at their own pace (and volume!). While here, they can complete a craft activity and participate in story time.

Hoard Literary Circle
Wednesday, October 9, 2024, 10 a.m.

The Hoard Literary Circle meets every other month on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. This month, they will be discussing Building Taliesin: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Home of Love and Loss by Ron McCrea. This event is free and open to the public, you do not need to be a member of the Literary Circle to attend the meeting. Copies of Building Taliesin are available at the Dwight Foster Public Library.
