The Knox Research Library and Archive
This part of the museum holds thousands of primary documents, personal and business records, photographs, maps, newspapers, and published materials that are of historical significance to the Fort Atkinson area.
HOURS: The library is open during regular museum hours. Access to archived materials in secure storage is completely dependent on staff availability. Appointments are preferred in order to assure that staff will be available to provide you access. Please call the museum at 920/563-7769 or e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange an appointment. The museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9:30 to 4:30 CST.
FEES: Admission to the museum and the Knox Library is free. Access to materials in secure storage is free for the first hour. After that the fee is $15 per hour for members of the Fort Atkinson Historical Society and $25 per hour for non-members. (Contact the museum to become a member.) By having your research questions clearly stated before calling, emailing, or coming in to the museum, you will minimize your total cost.REGISTRATION: At each visit, all researchers must register, providing their name, address, date and research topic. Each user must also have on file a signed copy of the registration form indicating that they have read and agreed to abide by the archive’s regulations.
REPRODUCTIONS: Scanned reproductions of photographs from the museum's archive may be available. Consult with staff about the fee schedule. Also, photocopying paper documents from the archive is generally available for 25 cents per page. Some material may not be photocopied. This includes items that the staff judge to be in too fragile a condition; items that are too large, such as bound newspapers; items that may have been restricted by the donor; and all photographs which can now be reproduced digitally. Reproduction of an archival image by use of a digital camera is negotiable.
